My Freshman Experience

Freshman year LGHS Koosha Azim

We have all been there. Freshman year of high school, new friends, new environment, new challenges, and new expectations. The ease of middle school is over and we all wish to finally gain independence…

Los Gatos High School

My freshman year in Los Gatos High School was one to remember. I had easily flown through middle school with the same nerdy friends and an academic lifestyle. Before high school, my life consisted of playing Halo on the weekends, consistently attaining straight As, and playing in the school orchestra. If that does not sound lame to you, I do not know what does.

Thankfully, high school rewired my brain and its priorities. With the Bitcoin bubble of 2017-18, my academic focus shifted to helping cryptocurrency startups. This slight escape from academia nurtured a drive to learn more about the industry/hobbies I like. The pivot turned out to be a very important development in my personal growth. I began enjoying learning and excelling in areas that motivated me to meet new people and grow my new LinkedIn page ( 2017 ).

Academics

In school, I remained inclined to finish with stellar grades. English honors became a hassle for a bit, but it was Biology Honors that caused the most trouble. Some poor mistakes led to a second semester Bio grade that broke my straight A streak, but that did not bother me. Academic-wise, freshman year introduced me to the rigor and pace of high school. It did not have the kick of a class like AP Euro nor the density of calculations required to do chemistry, but it paved the way for more learning.

Now that I have completed my sophomore year in high school, I can even declare that freshman year was tougher than its predecessor.

Social

Socially, I was more awkward and less popular in my freshman year. Being in an all-Asian friend group of pretentious academics did not help. At the time, I was much more ‘innocent’ and accustomed to conservative parental beliefs. Looking back, I am glad that my innocence may have shielded me from the ‘experimentation’ that most teenagers do at one point.
