Where the wild things are

The Fourth Turning, 2022

Humanity has begun taking a dystopian approach to its conquest. The trains, planes, and cars have come to a halt. Tanks, drones, and jets have replaced our means of transportation. Like sitting ducks, we accept the projectiles thrown at our exterior and interior. The towering highway overpass shields us from this reality and invites the nation’s artists to decorate the concrete slabs with our most prized possession: culture. The silhouette – a shadow of actress Audrey Hepburn – conveys how members of the upper class turn their heads away from the horrors, dangers, and oppression of this new world. Children carry this terror and develop scars that create savages out of men. Tomorrow’s leaders become dust in the warring winds of yesterday. Today, we collect acid rain as oceans evaporate. The drone in the shark expresses an everpresent danger of war and the disconnection between modern weaponry and human compassion or judgment. Over time, our numbness becomes hereditary. This is The Fourth Turning – a piece Tim Dilbeck and I created to capture the current global zeitgeist.
